{"id":236,"date":"2013-09-19T08:08:46","date_gmt":"2013-09-19T08:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.apador.org\/seamus\/?page_id=236"},"modified":"2026-05-04T09:54:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T07:54:21","slug":"despre-apador-ch","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/apador.org\/en\/despre-apador-ch\/","title":{"rendered":"About APADOR-CH"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Who we are<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Association for the Defence of Human Rights in Romania \u2013 the Helsinki Committee (APADOR-CH) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, established in 1990.\u00a0<b>APADOR-CH\u2019s Mission <\/b>is to take action for the protection of human rights and the establishment of equilibrium when they are in danger or infringed upon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>APADOR-CH\u2019s Values <\/b>are: <b>competence, professionalism, visibility, transparency, standards and ethic<\/b> concerning the respect for the following values<b>: its own capital, integrity, fairness, impartiality, honesty, objectivity, responsibility and good faith<\/b> both within APADOR-CH and with third parties.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-quote su-quote-style-default\"><div class=\"su-quote-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p><b>APADOR\u2013CH\u2019s Vision<\/b>: A society in which human rights are respected. It reacts rapidly to challenges in the field and is pro-active in promoting human rights. It has a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers. It has the necessary resources for sustainability and development.<\/p>\n<p>Please <a href=\"https:\/\/apador.org\/rapoarte-anuale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">find here all the APADOR-CH reports<\/a> of activities<\/p>\n<h1>The Board members of APADOR-CH:<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-simple su-spoiler-icon-caret su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span><strong>Alina Barbu<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">Alina Barbu is a legal expert with almost 30 years of experience in criminal law, criminal procedure and enforcement, especially in drafting normative acts, consolidated both at the national level and within the European and international mechanisms in the field &#8211; the European Union, the Council of Europe, the UN.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She has had constant involvement in the Council of Europe, including as a liaison officer for the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), with direct experience in monitoring detention conditions and implementing European standards in the field. She was a member and vice-president of the Council for Penological Cooperation (PC-CP) and contributed to the development of policies on prison overcrowding. She also participated in the development of standards on the protection of freedom of expression &#8211; SLAPP, as an expert within the committee (MSI-SLP).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since 2024, she has combined legal expertise with the work of a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, being involved in projects regarding access to justice, mental health and the protection of vulnerable persons, individually or in collaboration with a number of non-governmental organizations in the field.<\/div><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-simple su-spoiler-icon-caret su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span><strong>Gina Cr\u00e2ngariu<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">Gina Cr\u00e2ngariu has been a lawyer at the Bucharest Bar association since 1983 and a member of APADOR-CH since the foundation of the association. She works in the field of human rights and has a portfolio of cases supported at the ECHR, one of which before the Grand Chamber.<\/div><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-simple su-spoiler-icon-caret su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span><strong>Mihaela Ghirca-Bogdan<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">Mihaela Ghirca-Bogdan is a lawyer in the Bucharest Bar, represents victims of gender-based violence and participates in training and research activities in the field of fundamental rights. She has a Master&#8217;s degree in Human Rights, 4 years of experience as a jurist at the European Court of Human Rights and over 15 years of experience in the Romanian judicial system.<\/div><\/div>\n<h1>Executive director<\/h1>\n<div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-simple su-spoiler-icon-arrow su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span><strong>Georgiana Gheorghe<\/strong> <\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"> Georgiana Gheorghe has a B.A in political science (University of Bucharest) and a master in international human rights law from the Legal Studies Department of Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. She joined APADOR-CH in 2007 and has been engaged in civil society work for over 12 years, working for non-governmental organizations in Romania, Hungary and Latvia.
