Harmonizing the legal framework on torture and ill-treatment in Romania with UN definitions
The overall goal of the project is to determine the Romanian state to increase the standards related to the deprivation of liberty (excessive use of physical force by police/gendarmerie officers and overcrowding in Romanian detention facilities) in order to eliminate any form of torture.
As part of the project, APADOR-CH seeks to identify, document and report cases of physical abuse against individuals during police and gendarmerie actions, and to support the victims to initiate legal proceedings against the perpetrators.
As part of this project, APADOR-CH also monitors conditions of detention, documenting prison conditions and providing support to victims of torture or inhumane and degrading treatment.
This project is financed by the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture.
